As the New Republic consolidated its rule, former Imperial officers, nobles, technologists, and warlords escaped to the Unknown Regions as part of the Emperor's Contingency. The Imperial legacy endured in the decades after the Galactic Empire surrendered to the New Republic in the aftermath of the Battle of Jakku, the Empire signed the Galactic Concordance that ended the Galactic Civil War in 5 ABY.
However, operating behind a veil of secrecy was the true leadership of the First Order, the Sith Eternal cult that served the last Sith Lord and Galactic Emperor, Darth Sidious. The First Order was ruled by a Supreme Leader from their mobile headquarters instead of a traditional planetary capital.
As the hermit state grew, it colonized large swathes of the Unknown Regions, annexing the territory that served a crucial role in their plan to eventually seize the galaxy at large. The First Order, or simply the Order, was a fascist human– centric military junta in the Unknown Regions that had emerged from a remnant of the Galactic Empire during the New Republic Era.
We have been through the crucible and emerged stronger.
